January update on NYR

Quick update on how my New Year's Resolutions have been going.

1. I want to be healthier by exercising more. For the first three months of the year, I want to workout at least twice a week. For now, this will probably consist of my doing a night of yoga, either at home or at a studio, and going to the gym at school at least once a week.
-- It wasn't really happening until school started up again in late January. Since then, I have been exercising at least twice a week, mostly swimming. Starting next week, it'll be more like three times a week, swimming twice and working out in the gym once.

2. I also want to be healthier in my diet. My overall lack of time led to eating not so healthy foods and I think that's at least one of the reasons why I had frequent ailments last year. I don't really have any concrete goals for this one.
-- I've been working on portion control, trying to stop eating around the 80% full mark. I just got a book written by the woman who does "You are what you eat" on BBC, the show was recommended by a friend. I spotted the book for cheap and it's really informative, my plan is to start taking appropriate supplements and incorporate more servings of vegetables in my meals.

3. I want to be more conscious of my work, my personal relationships, and my life, and where everything is going. My plan is to reflect daily, and keep a two-three line journal and write in it at the end of each day .
-- I did this for the first week, then promptly forgot about it. I'm going to try to pick it up again. What I have been doing at work on particularly busy days is to make lists for myself in the morning of things I need to accomplish that day. That's been working really well. I think the journal should work like that list, except more in advance.

4. I want to be a more effective producer, not a consumer. I'm planning on scheduling in a good chunk of hours for knitting, sewing, maybe even fancy cooking, every weekend. As before, I want to use what I have and decrease my stashes, not increase.
-- This hasn't been working out that well, except for the fact that I'm still managing to get close to wrapping up all of my current projects. We'll see how it goes in February.

finished: baby quilt

(I think my initial blogging goal may have to be to post at least each month)

This is my first FO of the year, I made a baby quilt! This is my first quilt ever so I'm pretty happy with it, even though there were some mistakes here and there. You can probably tell from the photo that the triangles or flying geese don't exactly line up. The baby is already born and has been around for almost a month now so I wanted to get it done more than to get it done correctly. So with time being an issue, I did not try hand quilting either. The photos are a little dark because we've been having overcast day after overcast day around here but it's a really sweet color combination.

The back has Curious George on it, my BF's favorite cartoon character and his one request of the quilt's details.

And I'm also knitting the last part of the lacy blouse (from Rowan Romantic Style) that I started last summer, the button band. The 12 row repeat is way too complicated for me to memorize so this is undergoing very slow progress. Hopefully I'll be done with it before too long, I really want to start knitting a cold weather sweater and finish it before it gets warm again.

And finally, I started playing with my Ravelry account, it is really cool. I used to have a spread sheet with all of my stash and future projects listed on it, but lost it when my hard drive died a year or so ago. I'd like to organize everything again when I get a good long day off and enter it all into Ravelry, it's such a fantastic idea.
